Grasshopper Mind

walk jump fly hum

The grasshopper first arrived as an unexpected visitor in our studio. It stayed on a sheet of paper, then leaped back out. It became a recurring companion: a printed mark, a sculptural body, a way to change direction when a familiar route no longer works.

We follow what an experiment opens. A painted fragment can lead to a transparent construction; a small mark can grow into a public sculpture.

01 / A WAY OF WORKING

Everything Is Now

A work can be finished and still set another in motion. Earlier images and objects stay active in what we make next.

We exchange materials and work on each other’s transparent sheets. One of us adds something; the other changes it or takes it further. By the end, we often no longer know who made what. What emerges goes beyond what either of us could have made alone. That is the magic that keeps us working together.

A material can change the idea. Paint behaves differently on a clear sheet; hardware gives a drawn form weight and resistance. We try, assemble, take apart and try again. What we discover in one work can reopen an idea left waiting elsewhere.

A photograph can return on folded aluminum. In projects with other people, their materials, experiences and decisions also enter the work. What happens there can return to the studio.

The red thread is not straight. It learned to leap.

Grasshopper Mind — the sequence travels across the seventeen window panels

A red line crosses seventeen windows at Krämartorget. Printed images are worked over with paint, screenprint, chalk and pencil. Street reflections enter by day; backlighting changes the work after dark.
